Polymaps is a display and interaction library for tile-based vector and raster maps using SVG and Javascript. Their intent is to provide a minimal, extensible, customizable, and free display library for discriminating designers and developers who want to use interactive maps in their own projects.

Polymaps provides speedy display of multi-zoom datasets over maps, and supports a variety of visual presentations for tiled vector data, in addition to the usual cartography from OpenStreetMap, CloudMade, Bing, and other providers of image-based web maps

Polymaps can load data at a full range of scales, it’s ideal for showing information from country level on down to states, cities, neighborhoods, and individual streets. Because Polymaps uses SVG (Scalable Vector Graphics) to display information, you can use familiar, comfortable CSS rules to define the design of your data. And because Polymaps uses the well known spherical mercator tile format for its imagery and its data, publishing information is a snap.

PaintbrushJS is a lightweight, browser-based image processing library that can apply various visual filters to images within a web page.

You use it by applying a class to an element on the page and setting a few parameters with some extra HTML attributes. If the element is an img or it has a background-image set in your CSS, PaintbrushJS will create a temporary canvas element and manipulate the image there, before finally saving it back out to the original element. You can check out PaintbrushJS in action here.

Do you want RegexPal-style regex syntax highlighting on your webpages? This library takes care of it for you, so you can spend more time writing powerful regular expressions and less time deciphering them. Currently, JavaScript regexes only are supported.

Any regex features not supported by JavaScript are marked as errors, along with some edge cases that cause cross-browser grief. There's a bit more detail in this related blog post.

Have you ever wanted to do if-statements in your CSS for the availability of cool features like border-radius? Well, with Modernizr you can accomplish just that!

Modernizr is a small and simple JavaScript library that helps you take advantage of emerging web technologies (CSS3, HTML 5) while still maintaining a fine level of control over older browsers that may not yet support these new technologies.

Modernizr uses feature detection to test the current browser against upcoming features like rgba(), border-radius, CSS Transitions and many more. These are currently being implemented across browsers and with Modernizr you can start using them right now, with an easy way to control the fallbacks for browsers that don’t yet support them.

Additionally, Modernizr creates a self-titled global JavaScript object which contains properties for each feature; if a browser supports it, the property will evaluate true and if not, it will be false.

Cloud Carousel is a fast and cross-browser implementation of a 3d carousel – looks very nice, more like a Flash implementation. It can create dynamic reflections underneath the carousel items, is accessible and degrades nicely without JavaScript.

There are some benefits to doing this kind of thing in JavaScript rather than Flash, not least of which is the ease of integration, small file size, SEO, and inherent degradability/accessibility. Not having another dev-tool in the workflow is another plus.

  • Works with most browsers (tested on IE6+, Firefox, Chrome, Opera, Safari).
  • Accurate 3d perspective.
  • Optional auto reflections - no need to modify your images or add server code.
  • Easy integration with basic valid HTML and a tiny bit of JavaScript.
  • Small 5Kb (minified) script..
  • Degrades gracefully with Javascript turned off.
  • Fully accessible with no CSS or text only browsers.
  • Works with other plugins, e.g. Slimbox, and preserves your links and mouse events.
  • Optional mouse wheel support as of version 1.0.2.
  • It's completely free.

AeroWindow  is a jQuery plugin for creating Windows 7-like aero style pop-ups.

The pop-ups not only look like a native Windows element but also behave similarly as well with the minimize, zoom, maximize and close functions.

There can be multiple pop-ups in one page where the active one is highlighted visually.

All can be resized, drag'n dropped or maximized with double-clicks, all like Windows.

AeroWindow has various options like defining:

    - window titles
    - start positions (x-y or centered)
    - standard and minimum sizes
    - getting the status of an open window
    - applying animations on windows

The plugin is pretty awesome specially for anyone who wants to build an OS-like web interface.

Requirements: jQuery
Compatibility: All Major Browsers
